Do you ever wonder, like I have, that in living for God, in creating a deep connection with Him and truly going all in, you might actually become a bit….boring?
Even though I had been seeking a relationship with God for many years, once I finally decided to commit, I have to admit… part of me was worried. Worried that I’d become dull. Too placid. Too peaceful. ‘Too’ nice!
Now, I already think I’m a pretty nice person, but there was this fear in me that I’d somehow become someone I didn’t want to be. So, I’m sharing this in case that’s a fear you have too, and it’s been holding you back from stepping over the line walking fully toward God, your Creator, the One who put you here for your purpose and mission.
Let me assure you: that will NOT be the case.
Yes, you will go through an identity shift in God. There’s no doubt about that. If you allow Him to, He will strip away and pull back everything that’s not of Him, everything that’s not meant for your life.
And yes, that process can feel a bit like being tossed around in a washing machine! But when you come out on the other side (because you will) you’ll realise you haven’t become a Stepford-Christian! Whew.
For me this meant that ….
My essence still remains
My nonconformity remains.
My going against the grain remains.
My unwillingness to fit into society’s boxes remains.
My half-glass-full, optimistic outlook remains.
My sense of humour remains.
My drive and ambition remain.
All of these things, including my work and purpose, are part of who God made me to be. They were never things He wanted to remove from me in the first place. What He does remove are the things I’ve attached to myself that don’t belong; the extra “modelling clay,” if you will, that I’ve stuck onto the beautiful marble sculpture He’s shaping me into.
God is the master sculptor. He’s carving something beautiful out of you, too.
So yes, you’ll undergo a transformation, but don’t worry about losing yourself. Your personality, your quirks, your likes and dislikes, they’ll still be there. You’ll just become more of who you truly are in God.
When you place your life and trust in God’s hands, the change is always for the better. Don’t fear becoming a new creation in Him. It’s not about losing yourself, it’s about finding your true self, the one He designed from the beginning.
If you know deep down that you’re here for a purpose, and you’re determined, through all the highs and lows, to keep walking that path, then know this: the path will become straighter, perhaps narrower and way less crowded, but definitely clearer, when you allow God to transform you.
You don’t have to drag around that heavy rucksack filled with things you’ve accumulated along the way that aren’t needed where you’re going. Let Him lighten the load.
If this spoke to you, and you’re ready to go deeper, ready to step fully into the woman God created you to be without fear of losing yourself, then I’d love to invite you to book a 1:1 coaching call with me.
We’ll talk through where you are right now, what God is stirring in your heart, and how to move forward with boldness, clarity, and faith.
Message me today, and let’s take that next step together.
